Sometimes you are so confident that things will work out. Until it looks like they won’t…
I booked my flights, so the outline of my trip was there. Next thing was to find a couch. I searched for a nice person and sent a request. I heard nothing back, so four days later, I did another search. Again, no reply. This continued the same way in the weeks to follow.
How is this possible? I’m a bit sad… In the last two years, I learned that Couchsurfing is a great way to meet new people, have good conversations and experience a different way of traveling. Last weekend was a good example again, and I was hoping to find this on my trip as well. But with only three days to go, it looks like I will end up in a hostel.
There is nothing wrong with hostels, you can meet new people and have a good time there as well, but still, it’s different. At least I will travel to Belfast with J., a Canadian Couchsurfer who lives in The Netherlands for now. We happen to be on the same flight. I guess I’ll see what happens.
I still have the confidence that things will work out, my beliefs just got damaged a bit.
Then, only two days to go, and I get a reply from M.: “Do you still need a place to stay?” I tell him yes, and now all I’ve got to do is to keep believing.
But the day after, I get a message that it’s not possible after all. When J. and I start the frantically search for a hostel, it becomes clear that everything is fully booked already. Of course. How will this end?
